Why This Matters
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a severe, progressive genetic disorder affecting boys that weakens muscle over time — including the heart and lungs. It's caused by the body's inability to produce the dystrophin protein, which leads to rapid muscle degeneration, weakness, and eventual loss of ambulation and respiratory function.
Drew was diagnosed with Duchenne at 2 years old, and for more than 249 weeks and counting, he's received a weekly infusion of Exondys 51, a treatment designed to help his body produce a partial, functional form of dystrophin and help slow the disease's progression.
Through it all, Drew's faith, his love for God, and the love of his family carry him through this difficult journey with a joy that inspires everyone who meets him.
